Pediatrics Block: (Ped 601: CRH, 9)

The Pediatrics Block aims to introduce the medical students to a balanced view of the preventive and curative health needs of infants, children and adolescents, as well as information and management of common community health problems affecting them.  The combination of structured teaching, clinical experience and self-directed learning in the Child & Adolescent Health curriculum provides learning opportunities that will equip medical students with enough background to continue their future career. Medical students will develop core clinical skills and knowledge which also consider special areas of need, health promotion, child advocacy, ethical issues and research areas that impact pediatric care.

The structured teaching sessions, PBLs and clinical attachments present students with many opportunities to develop further within the Personal & Professional Development Theme. One of the major areas of professional development for students in this rotation will be in the area of Evidence Based Medicine, as it is integrated within the PBLs, with an emphasis on the clinical relevance of high level evidence.
