Profile

An academic and clinical leader in the field of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Nawfal Aljerian currently holds the position of Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the College of Medicine in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Specialties (KSAU-HS).  Additionally, he is serving as Medical Director and Head of the Division of Emergency Medical Services at National Guard Health Affairs, affiliated with the University.  In addition to responsibilities as a Department Consultant and Assistant Professor in this field, he has been the Clinical Supervisor of medical and paramedic students and Emergency Medicine residents during the Hajj mission from 2012 to present.  He is also Chairman of the Exam Committee of the Saudi Board of Emergency Medicine.
 
Dr. Aljerian has ongoing relationships and consultancies with organizations such as the national emergency department development program, the Saudi Health Council, as well as the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. Through his work, he has contributed to policy and protocol development in areas such as emergency medicine, emergency medical services, disaster management, critical care and relevant medical education. His involvement in taskforces, symposia and committees, conferences and other working bodies has explored the span of key scholarly and civilian concerns and interests.  

After initial training Dr. Aljerian completed fellowship work on Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Medicine at the University Of Toronto, going on to complete his Masters of Medical Education, at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Science.  His work is committed to contributing to the literature and clinical knowledge in the ever-changing field of Emergency Medicine. 

Responsibilities
In the role of Associate Dean, Dr. Al Jerian oversees the teaching, organization and management of the College of Medicine’s educational program, including evaluation of block (course) content, assignment of Faculty Staff for teaching, and recommends any changes in the curriculum or block structure. He also serves as a liaison between college administrators and the students. In his capacity as the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs he coordinates admissions, health services, and social programs for students.  He has taken an active role as both an organizer and a speaker in many workshops and Symposia both nationally and abroad, regarding emergency medical services, disaster medicine and advance life support.
