International Speaker Professor Robert Parson presented a workshop on Teaching Critical Thinking in the Health Professions on April 24th, 2016.  Robert (Bob) Parson is Director, Education and Accreditation, Office of Continuing Professional Development, Fac. of Medicine, Ottawa. He works with physician groups and faculty to develop educational best practices for planning committees and presenters; designing and developing strategy and structure at the program level, and improving teaching and learning strategies with a focus on metacognition and integrating critical thinking into courses. 

The workshop involved several exercises to demonstrate and explore the potential attributes of critical thinking as it pertains to teaching and learning in medicine, examined a CT teaching model and discussed applications for each of its four CT steps and adapt and use the model for the participants' specific teaching and learning needs.  The workshop used interactive presentation and small group discussion.  Work done in the small group exercises was discussed and critiqued in the plenary session.

Blackboard has created a new app for student hand held devices so that learning can be accessible on the go. Some of the main features include:

  • Shows smart view of prioritized events and actions.
  • Assignments & tests: View, complete, and submit assignments and tests.
  • Grades & progress: Check grades and academic progress in real time.
  • Synchronous learning: Join virtual classes on the go in Collaborate.

King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh is pleased to announce the availability of scholarship opportunity to pursue Clinical Fellowship in Neuroradiology.  The position is open for competition among Asst. Consultants and Board Certified physicians only and the basic requirements are:

The chosen candidate who met the requirements and passed the interview and selection process will be required to work in Neuroradiology Division, Medical Imaging Dept at KAMC Riyadh prior to and on return from scholarship. Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs through King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) directed by the Corporative Nomination Committee for Research Awards is pleased to announce that all MNG-HA affiliated Staff including King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) and King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) are invited to nominate themselves for the 9th MNG-HA Annual Research Award 2016 for one of the following categories:

1.       SENIOR RESEARCHER AWARD

2.       RESEARCHER AWARD

3.       YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD

 

The nomination process starts on Wednesday, June 15th 2016 and runs through October 1st 2016 the online form is available on KAIMRC website and MNG-HA intranet website for the nominees.

The form requires documented research activities such as published papers, conference communication, book chapters, dissertation, thesis, patent certificate, research grant agreement and other related activities. Further detailed information about the award is available in Research Award APP# 1429-28. For researchers who nominated themselves last three years, we encourage them to update their applications and submit to the appropriate Research Award Category. We also welcome and accept new applicants to participate in this award.
