Oncology and Palliative Care

INTRODUCTION

Text goes here.

Renal, Reproduction and Sexual Health

INTRODUCTION

This block covers the renal and reproductive systems. In studying the renal system, emphasis is placed on the basic anatomy, physiology, and homeostatic role of this system, while integrating with the common pathological and clinical conditions that are encountered in it. In the second part of the block, the reproductive system is explored from two aspects: a basic science aspect that includes the normal anatomy, physiology, and hormonal regulation; and a practical aspect that includes exposure to the important clinical problems and their pathophysiological mechanisms.

Neurosciences, Vision and Behaviour

INTRODUCTION
The nervous system is a complex, interactive system that controls behavior, thought, emotions and motor functions. This block serves to teach the students about the physiology, anatomy and organization of this complex system.  The general goal is for the students to gain an understanding of how this system functions, how things can go wrong and how these abnormalities can present in addition to investigation, management and prevention of these abnormalities.

Respiratory Sciences

INTRODUCTION

This block focuses on the respiratory system in an integrated approach. It introduces students to basic and clinical sciences related to this system, in addition to common respiratory health problems. The physiology and mechanics of breathing are the focus of this block with subsequent exposure to common obstructive and restrictive lung diseases. Public health and community issues related to pulmonary problems are also discussed.

Musculoskeletal Sciences and Substance Abuse

INTRODUCTION

This block focuses on two main themes:

1. substance abuse

introduction to the important and common problems of the musculoskeletal system, including trauma, and to use these problems for furnishing students with solid knowledge and skills related to the anatomy of the upper and lower limbs, muscle physiology, histology of bone and joints, pathophysiology and immunopathology of musculoskeletal disorders and the approach to a patient with a musculoskeletal disorder.

2. the musculoskeletal system

gain an understanding of the basic concepts of substance abuse such as etiology, risk factors, pathophysiology of addiction and basic concepts of management.

Foundation Studies

INTRODUCTION

This is the first block of the Medical Program and it serves as an introductory block to the other 8 blocks in phase 2.  The main aim of this block is to furnish students with a good foundation in basic and clinical skills along with behavioural sciences that prepare them for the study of the upcoming system blocks at Phase II.

Cardiovascular Sciences

INTRODUCTION

In this block the normal physiological and anatomical aspects of the Cardiovascular System (CVS) are examined and integrated with the common clinical problems of this system. The role of the CVS is to deliver blood containing oxygen and nutrients substances to the tissues and deliver waste products to organs of elimination or metabolism.  This vital role of the system is accomplished by a few hundred miles of vascular structures (arteries, capillaries and veins) and a reliable pump (heart) which must beat regularly for a lifetime. It is a system that has a complex anatomical and physiological structure that is known to experience many pathological conditions. This block tackles those areas.
