Prof. Abdelgadir has joined the College of Medicine, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences as professor of physiology in the department of Basic Medical Sciences in 2013. Before that he worked as Professor of Physiology, College of Medicine, King Saud University and as Consultant, Blood Bank, King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh from 1983 till 2003. He worked as the associate professor, Department of Physiology, in the same institution from 1977 till 1983. He also worked as senior Lecturer, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, Sudan for two years. From 1972 to 1972 he was the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University Dept. of Medicine (Blood Transfusion Centre) Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.

Other than these academic responsibilities, Prof. Abdelgadir served as the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh; Director of the Blood Bank, King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh and Medical Director of the University Hospital Laboratories, King Saud University, Riyadh.  More than 15 students finished their PhD and MSc research projects under his supervision. He has published more than 180 research papers in internally renowned journals and is the reviewer of several journals of international repute. He has represented the University on many national and international forums.
